It's getting closer

So my surgery date is getting closer, and not just because time is passing. I got an e-mail today that there was a glitch with the scheduling system at Sunnybrook and now my date is moved up by 1 week. I now can look forward to March 22nd. It's strange because it means that I only have 4 more weeks of hearing in my left ear. But on the bright side, hopefully these weird headaches will also be over in 4 weeks. I know that my balance will be worse, but that will only get better as time passes. The 1 thing I haven't thought of for a while is the possibility of facial paralysis. It's the thing that I think bothers me the most and I actually do try to not think about it. But now that I have a date and is coming sooner I do need to prepare myself a little for the possibility. Dr. Chen said that based on the size of my tumour I only have a 25% chance of it and then even if I do have it after the surgery it might not be permanent. It's just so ugly that I really hope and pray I don't get it at all.

I have a date

So it's not what I wanted, but I do have a date. It's not until March 29th, which seems such a long way off, but at least I now have something to look forward to. I guess the other good part of this is that the AN society of Canada said that the best way to speed up recover is to walk, and by the time I get home from surgery the weather will be better for that. So the count down continues.

The waiting is making me go out of my mind

So a couple weeks back I had sent Dr. Chen's assistant and e-mail asking when I might hear about a surgery date. She had come back and told me that I was first on the list for March and that they wouldn't know March's schedule until mid Feb. So it's now mid-February and still no news. I did send her an e-mail again today but so far no reply back. It's really starting to drive me crazy.

As for my health, not a lot has changed. I had about 3 weeks of feeling pretty good, but the last 2 weeks have been kind of lousy again. I've started to wake up at night with bad headaches again, even though I'm still sleeping sitting. They really are the strangest things. The headaches feel like my whole head is about to explode. The odd thing is that once I change position or sit up more, then they go away quickly. I have never before experienced such a bad headache go away so fast.

The other thing that has been a problem in the last few weeks are my dizzy spells which are getting more frequent. I've also had 2 spells were it was so bad that I felt like I was going to black out. Thankfully it only last a few seconds. The thing that is strange is that up until now I only get dizzy when I walk up a stairs or stand quickly, but these 2 episodes have been while I was sitting down. Not really sure why, but hopefully their occurrence will be few and far between.

So enough of me complaining, I will post again when I finally hear some news from Dr. Chen's office. Hopefully sooner then later.

So last week I decided to send Dr. Chen's office an e-mail to see if there was any possible surgery date for me yet. The response I got was that they won't know March's schedule until mid-feb. So here is hoping that I won't have to wait more then 2 week until I know when I can get this over and done with.

Things are pretty unchanged in how I'm feeling. One exception being that I now have a new sound in my left ear. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of a cross between a pot of boiling water and the sound of a piece of cardboard that kids put on their bike spokes. Not sure if that makes any sense to anyone, but that's the best I can explain it.

So the waiting continues.
